Pawan Kalyan (born September 2, 1971 is a popular Indian film star and director in Andhra Pradesh. He is fondly called Power Star by his fans. His birth name is Konidala Kalyan. He is younger brother to popular Telugu Actor Chiranjeevi and Naga Babu.
Early career
Pawan Kalyan entered Telugu movie industry with the movie Akkada Abbai Ikkada Ammayi as Kalyan Babu. This film did not do well at the box office. However, he was noticed for his Martial Arts.
Career
After his first movie, his second movie Gokulamlo Seetha was an average flick but his next movies like Suswagatham, Tholi Prema, Thammudu, Badri, and Kushi went on to become hits which earned him a decent reputation. Kushi was a trend setter and was received well both commercially and critically.He even directed few song sequences and fight sequences in the Sensational Film Kushi. Also directed one fight sequence in the film Daddy for his brother Megastar Chiranjeevi.
Thammudu
After the surprise blockbuster Tholi Prema, many were eagerly awaiting for the his next film. Pawan's next film was Thammudu. This film was loosely inspired from Aamir Khan's film "Jo Jeeta wohi Sikandar",where he plays a character called "Subbu" who is very casual towards life and does not show interest in academics, He plays the role of a brother, the film is about winning the Kick-boxing championship which was his fathers dream, which his elder brother could not accomplish it. The comedy scenes delivered by Kalyan are very good. The love track is also very interesting, the love and action are perfectly mixed in this film. Success of this film earned him many fans all over Andhra Pradesh.
Badri
After the success of Thammudu, the next film of Pawan Kalyan was Badri. Puri Jaggannadh made his debut as director with this film. The story of the film is about a guy who is unable to decide whom should he marry as he falls in love with another girl unknowingly. Initially the film was rated as an above average but later it became to be one of the hits of Pawan Kalyans career. The highlight of this film was the cowboy costume by Pawan Kalyan in the song "Yeh Chikita". In this film he shows an extardinary tallent when saying dialogs, when he says slow and power full dialogs to Prakash Raj.
Toliprema
This film is generally referred as turning point in his career. It is love story, where the hero loves heroine, but does not express his feelings to her,as she is very determined with her academics, the climax of the film shows the heroines love for the hero. The brother and sister relationship is well crafted in the movie.
Kushi
Kushi is considered as the biggest hit of Pawan Kalyan."One-Man-Show" is the apt word that describes the role of Pawan Kalyan in this film. The fights in this film are composed by Pawan Kalyan himself. KUSHI is a TRENDSETTER movie of tollywood. Kushi created & broke the records of all prevous tollywood movies.
His dialogue delivery and modulation is impeccable. This film shows the ego feelings between the lovers. PC Sreeram's photography is excellent. He directed 2 songs in the film and costumes for Pawan Kalyan are mangaed by his girlfriend Renu Desai. This film is known for its screenplay and full credit to S.J Suryah. Even the tamil version starring vijay is a big hit
After Kushi
After Kushi, Kalyan had five more releases Johnny, Gudumba Shankar, Balu ABCDEFG, Bangaram and Annavaram. All these movies did not do well as expected but were received with good collections. Pawan Kalyan ventured into direction with the movie Johnny which didn't do well.
Satyagrahi is the second directorial movie of Pawan Kalyan after Johnny. This movie has the tag line "Satyame Naa Aayudham" which means "Truth is my weapon". The movie was launched on March 25, 2006 and the shooting is scheduled to start soon. The release of the movie is expected to be in 2007. This is the third movie of Pawan Kalyan with the producer A.M. Ratnam under the banner of Surya Movies after the blockbuster Khushi and the disaster Bangaram. This film will be a bilingual film.
Jalsaa
Pawan is currently doing a film with Trivikram Srinivas. This movie is titled as Jalsa.This movie is far from media hype but still it managed to get hype because Pawan - Trivikam combo. The movie also has Illeana, the current youth heart throb.Parvathi Melton and Kamalini Mukherjee are doing guest roles . Pawan Kalyan always got admiration from stalwarts like A.M. Rathnam, P.C. Sreeram etc..
